Pennsylvania Police Officer James “Jimmy” Morrison is Killed in Motorcycle Wreck in Culpepper, VA.

By John Cooper, Virginia Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

With depressing regularity, I read about accidents in which motorcyclists are killed in Virginia by drivers who pull out in front of them or make careless turns.

Just days ago, a University of Pennsylvania police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash in Culpepper, Virginia, when this scenario occurred.

NBC10 Philadelphia reported on how James “Jimmy” Morrison was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle along Madison Road in  Culpeper, Va. last Thursday afternoon when a Ford pickup truck pulled into the road in front of him.

The 47-year-old police officer tried to react in time. He swerved to avoid the pickup truck and “lost control of the motorcycle, rolling several times before being thrown from the bike,” police said.

The police officer was rushed to Culpeper Regional Hospital and later died. My thoughts are with his family.

Mr. Morrison was riding with seven other members of the Blue Knights of Pennsylvania, an organization of law enforcement motorcycle enthusiasts, when the fatal crash took place.

“Officer Jimmy Morrison was a model father, husband, Patriot, University of Pennsylvania Police Officer. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends,” Penn Vice President of Public Safety Maureen Rush, told NBC10.

The driver of the pickup was 84. According to reports no charges have been filed.

In many cases in which motorcyclists are killed by drivers pulling out in front of them, their families have legitimate grounds to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the insurance policy of the car or truck driver.
